have just announced that Final Fanasy VI will be heading for both Android and iOS this coming Winter. Instead of being a straight port from the original title way back in 1994, it will be a new version that is heavily modified with new enhancements when it comes to combat.

The battle systems have been altered for the other [mobile remakes] for Final Fantasy and VI will be the same. For instance grinding was an issue and people had to spend a lot of time leveling up. Now on the mobile devices the battle systems have been adjusted so you don’t have to fight as much and can enjoy the game for what it is. – director and producer Takashi Tokita

Final Fantasy VI will still feature 2D graphics but will be optimized for mobile devices. The announcement to a surprise as the company is also planning a remake with Final Fantasy IV which is officially called Final Fantasy IV: The After Years which is planned to be released this year in full 3D.
